Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has insisted that he included players born abroad in his team’s squad to play against Algeria and Tunisia respectively in international friendly matches because they are now interested in playing for Nigeria.

DAILY POST had reported that Rohr had included former Germany U-20 captain, Kevin Akpoguma, Belgium-born striker, Cyriel Dessers and German-Dutch defender, Kingsley Ehizibue in his 25-man squad to tackle Algeria and Tunisia on Friday and Tuesday respectively.

Rohr made this known during a news conference ahead of Super Eagles’ tonight friendly clash with Algeria in Austria.

“We are only mindful of the quality of players in building the team, not where they were born,” Rohr told the media on Thursday.

“It is not good to say because players are born abroad, they aren’t Nigerians.

“The players we have wanted to play for us, the motivation is there. White or black, it doesn’t matter.

“It is not good to talk about their colour or where they are born. They are Nigerians and want to play for Nigeria.

“This is what some of these boys don’t like as well. They are seen as foreigners in Europe and then in Nigeria. They are called whites which they aren’t.”
